Type animations, AR typography

My aim was to create augmented reality typography and push the boundaries of complex 3D text animations in AR.
According to experts, the use of augmented reality will play a significant role in accessing digital worlds in the future. This development opens up new opportunities and challenges for designers in co-creating three-dimensional environments. Despite the hype and developments in AR filters, it has not been possible yet to create complex 3D type animations as AR effects on mobile devices. This is due to large file size of animated 3D objects and limited data compatibility for mobile devices. Therefore I developed a strategy to render kinetic 3D type animations as mobile AR filters by reducing their file complexity.
In parallel to solving the technical challenges, I created a design concept for six AR filters based on animated 3D text. The different wording of the animations should encourage users to face the new technologies more openly. The close interplay between words and animations is intended to emphasize the messages and make them come alive.
Users can independently reshape the surface of the filters and become part of it by bringing their hands, other people or objects into the front camera's viewport. The reflective surface of the letters symbolizes the merging of digital and analog worlds through AR and the development of the metaverse. The extremely wide and compressed font styles are meant to create AR filters with strong characters. The weight was individually chosen to best complement the respective animation.
In addition, each of the AR filters was also designed as a digital 2D poster. Thus, even visitors without mobile devices could see the animations on screens in the exhibition of my graduation project.
