The photobook about Greenland was created as part of a collaboration between students from FH Dortmund and laif Agentur für Fotos & Reportagen. It features photographs by Mads Nissen, capturing different aspects of Greenland in a direct and honest way. I developed the concept and designed the photobook, with a clear focus on a minimal layout that gives the images enough space to breathe.
In addition to the photography, the book includes short texts on Greenland’s geography, politics, and traditional folk songs. These texts add context without interrupting the visual flow. One distinctive design element is the use of shortened pages in the middle of the book. As a result, the glacier photographs stand out more strongly and create a subtle moment of pause while flipping through the pages.
For the production, I chose Sirio Pearl paper to introduce a slight shimmer and a pleasant tactile quality. The cover continues this idea. When unfolded, it reveals a large glacier image on the back. This detail connects the outside of the book with its inner content and offers a quiet preview of what follows.
Overall, the project was about restraint. The design stays in the background and lets the photographs speak. In this way, layout and content work together without competing for attention.
