The photobook design was created during a non-commercial collaboration between the students of FH Dortmund and laif Agentur für Fotos & Reportagen. The photo series, titled "Greenland," was captured by the renowned photographer Mads Nissen. Based on the provided pictures I had the chance to create a concept and bookdesign for the photo series.
In addition to the stunning photographs, the book also includes textsections about geographical and political aspects of Greenland, as well as greenlandic folk songs. One interesting design feature in the book is the use of shortened pages in the middle section to highlight the aesthetic of the glacier photos, creating a unique visual effect. The choice of Sirio Pearl paper not only adds to the visual appeal but also offers a pleasant tactile experience.
Also the cover of the book is special. When unfolded, it reveals a captivating glacier image on the back, providing a glimpse of what readers can expect inside. This collaborative project aimed to showcase Greenland's beauty and culture in a more subdued manner, letting the photographs and content speak for themselves without any unnecessary dramatic flair.
